Teachers and CSI fans love this informative 24″ by 36″ wall chart illustrating common fingerprint comparison characteristics. With this learning aid you’ll know how to match prints like the pros. This poster shows ridge characteristics.
Fingerprint examiners use small details in fingerprints, called ridge characteristics or minutiae, to match fingerprints. The most common ridge characteristics are bifurcations, ridge endings, and islands.
Bifurcations are when a ridge splits into two ridges.
Ridge endings are when a ridge ends without splitting into another ridge.
Islands are when a small ridge is surrounded by ridges on all sides.
